A Facelift for a Seaside Cottage
Our property is a seaside beach house; and we bought it about 20 years ago and hadn’t done a lot of work on it, so we decided since we weren’t going away this year to do a sort of re-fit makeover on It. We did quite a lot of work - we put new windows on the front of the house which takes the bulk of the wind and driving rain, which can often be upwards of 60 miles per hour here in the winter months. We also replaced two sets of patio doors, we did look at Rationel doors for that but you only had a single door system and we needed bi-parting doors so that wasn’t the answer for us there; but we did prefer the Rationel externals doors and that’s where we came to Ecotec.
Prior to our Rationel doors we had UPVC and with our weather conditions over a period of time they start to warp, and once that happened they were letting water in. We decided on wood based aluminium framed windows because we knew we wanted a much more substantial product to the one we had previously. I had done quite a bit of research, and quite few properties down here do use Scandinavian products such as Rationel because it suits the climate.
Since we couldn’t come to Anglesey with Covid restrictions we used one of our friends who project manages quite a few projects down here, while we were sitting at home in Harrogate, watching from a distance through pictures and things! Definitely working from home – and since our project manager recommended we take a look at Scandinavian products I had a look on google and that’s how we came across Ecotec, you popped up in Barnsley . but fortunately we came to visit the showroom and saw Rob, and later Brett who were very helpful. It was good to see lots of products in situ. So unfortunately, our doors had been packed quite badly; I didn’t realise that they came from Poland and obviously somewhere in transit something had obviously punctured the plastic wrapping and thereby the door underneath. We spoke to Su and she was really really helpful; it didn’t take long for her to accept that it was the transport company’s fault and that she’d have to replace them – and it gave us the opportunity to do a cheeky thing and change the colour! Thing is everyone round here’s got grey and we tried to go for a green to match the weatherboarding, but it just didn’t match. Since the doors were already being changed we just had to cover the cost of the frame covers so it worked out quite well in the end. We went for anthracite grey like you had in your showroom and we are really happy with how it looks.
We are really pleased with our doors; they have a very satisfying clunk when they close, so they feel really solid and sturdy. We’re looking forward to seeing how they cope with the driving wind and rain but it’s been glorious down here at the moment so we will wait and see!
